Sólo cantar- all you have to do is sing to remember and celebrate Luis. The only gift he wanted from me toward the end of his life was for me to sing. My father introduced me to the healing power of music before I was born.  He died of complications from ALS, just three weeks before I became mama to Zora, who was born early and strong. It was a wild time spent in liminal space, and led to me responding to my heart's deep longing for healing through singing and songwriting.

In April of 2022, I created and co-produced Sólo Cantar: A Celebration of Life and the Healing Power of Music with Brevan Hampden, Le'Andra McPhatter, and Jyvonne Haskin in Durham, NC. We sang some of my father's favorite songs, and I sang four original songs for the first time as we raised funds for people living with ALS.

Sólocantar.space continues this healing work by creating spaces where folks from the Afro Latiné / BIPOC / queer and trans diaspora can journey together to reclaim ancestral healing practices and create new spiritual practices and collaborative art.
